The beautiful and noble city is in the heart of Maremma. Grossetolies in a green plain traced by river Ombrone and its origins date back to the powerful Roselle during the Etruscan and Roman periods. Strolling among military, religious and civil monuments, you can cover the twelve centuries of history by identifying, one by one, the layers of periods and the rulers that have succeeded.
The center, with the wonderful hexagonal walls, the Cathedral and the Sienese Cassero, recounts the various souls who inhabited the city. The Medici Walls, arrived virtually intact to this day, are a complex circuit with 6 defensive bastion that served as guard posts. On all stands the fortress, a veritable fortress dominated by the construction of the Cassero Sienese.
